Can you charge a laptop through the type-C port of a Ryzen laptop?

The Type-C port itself was a revolution when it came to the connectivity of various devices over cables. It was the answer to the annoying trial and error plug-in rituals of typical USB cables.

I would like to give a recommendation for anyone looking forward to getting a Dock for their Ryzen laptops with a Type-C port that supports Power Delivery and Display Port.

There are so many hubs available but to get one with decent charging Amps, you will have to shell out at least $200+. Even so, it might not have enough power to charge your laptop as most laptop needs at least 45W for charging.

This is where the Lenovo T24H and P24H ThinkVisions monitor comes in. It is an IPS 24 inch monitor with a built-in Type-C hub. It costs between $200-$250 in the US. With a fully adjustable stand and a phone holder built into the stand, you are getting way more than what you actually pay for! Normal IPS monitors from BenQ with the same specs and an adjustable stand costs more than this.

I got this for my Dell Inspiron 5505 Ryezen 7 4700U laptop with a Type-C port.

Earlier, Dell had made it clear that the laptop can't be charged through the Type-C port and power delivery meant the laptop could deliver power. But they were wrong.

After connecting the laptop to a Lenovo T24H monitor through a Type-C cable which was given with the monitor, I am able to use all features of the hub, extend my laptop display to the monitor as well as charge the laptop at a whopping 65W! This can be further increased to 75W if you lower the monitor brightness.

Something to be noted here is that the cable plays a big role in charging the laptop. I had another Type-C to Type-C cable with me which I used to use for charging my phone and transferring files from my phone.  This cable, if connected to the monitor's Type-C port, does everything except charging. The cable which was shipped with the monitor was considerably thicker than this cable.

So, if you are someone planning to spend $200 on a hub, go for this monitor instead, They go out of stock very fast!
