MGM Model School, Varkala: How they killed a student.
Hi friends, recently a student of MGM Model School Ayiroor, Varkala have lost his life due to the mental stress and harassment put on him by the school authorities. I am deeply saddened by this incident. Media and some posters have declared the Vice Principal of the college, Mr. Rajeev as the culprit. I would like to let you all know there is more to this that what you have seen in the news. The root of the problem starts with the highest authority of the school, Mr. Sukumaran. You all may have seen his interview on the incident and how he presented himself completely clean in this incident. He claimed that the staff who have said to harassed the child have done it without his knowledge and if at all he knew anything, he would not have allowed it to happen. I along with my friends studied in the same institution for 7 long years. In this span of education, there were good and bad days. Of all the incidents, what I would like to recall now is what happened to me when I was studying in 11th. Since I had low marks for some subjects, my parents were called to the school for a meeting with secretary Mr. Sukumaran, the principal, and some teachers. Without hearing any reasons they declared me useless and thereby barring me from entering 12th. This may seem small but for a student who is studying in 11th, it's like losing everything. None of the teachers supported in any sort. The atmosphere was comparable to how a king and his colleagues were treating slaves. They literally wanted to embarrass me and my parents. That was the sole point of the meeting. The way Mr. Sukumaran spoke that day had me depressed for days followed. It made me hate the school and all the teachers who had nothing but complaints. I made a decision to move to another school and continue on with my life. But sadly, our friend Arjun did not have enough mental strength to go over it and he decided to end his life. Mr. Rajeev who is accused of abusing Arjun mentally is a person I know. I have good as well as bad experiences with him as a teacher. Whatsoever, in no way, I can believe he is the sole reason for the boy's death. It is the higher authorities' decisions that are put out by various staff. I humbly request everyone to share their bad experiences with school authorities if you had any. If an anonymous survey is done in the school among current students about the mental harassment, everything would be clear. Let us stand against educational institutions like these to prevent another suicide #justiceForArjun
