Fix Chevrolet Sail not starting.

If you have a GM vehicle like Chevrolet sail and it's not starting, I might be able to help you. This condition isn't specific as there are a lot of reasons that can stop a car from starting. i

However, if the engine is cranking but not starting, then most probably the issue is with the engine immobilizer.

The issue is that the chip in the key is not able to communicate with the ECU. It's a mystery why this occurs in a blue moon in Chevrolet cars.

Quick Fix

1. Turn key to ignition and try to start the car.(car won't start). Leave the key in that position for 10 mins.

2. After 10 mins, turn off the key completely and wait for 5 seconds and turn it back on and try to start the car again. Of you're in luck, car will start, else you'll have to repeat step 1 for 2 more times. (a total of 3 times).

3. Try to start the car

Other tips,
You could also try removing negative terminal of the battery for 10 mins. Turn on headlight after removing battery to discharge charge in the wiring of the car. Light won't turn on but yet it'll discharge.
Connect back the terminal and try to start the car.

4. If you have a high end OBD diagnostic tool, you can read the codes and try to clear them as well. You'll have to select Chevrolet sail 1.5 (not 1.2 or 1.3) in order to see the error codes.

When your car doesn't start, what all would you think the obvious reasons are?
Well, what if the dealer themselves cannot diagnose the issue!
I own a 2013 Chevrolet Sail. It's a car sold mostly in small countries by GM.

Begining of the issue
Within two years of ownership, the car had issue starting up. Not just in the mornings. It usually happened when we went somewhere in the car and tried to start it to return. It just doesn't made any sense. A fully warmed up car with a perfectly good battery cranking but not starting. What amazed be more than that was the fact that the car started up right away after sometime normally. The whole Chevrolet authorized service center put their head on to it and couldn't find the issue. There was no check engine light or error codes in ECU. Even I scanned with my OBD tool. They ended up randomly changing the fuel pump under warranty. But the issue persisted.
Since they couldn't solve this problem and since it was intermediate, we kind of neglected this issue and took it is our destiny.

Eureka, me finding the issue
Being an automobile enthusiast and DIY guy, i kept on researching about the issue. It took 6 years to find another vehicle with same issue posted on YouTube. The person has documented the issue and he used an advanced professional OBD scanning tool to read the error code. But what he did differently was that instead to choosing the car model as 1.2L(which is the actual model), he selected 1.3L model option. And just like that it throws up an error code P1612. The code means that the ECU is not able to communicate with Engine immobilizer and therefore ignition is disabled. This code is thrown when the car is not able to detect the chip in the key. This perfectly made sense. At times the car couldn't detect the sensor in key and that's why it caused this issue. But by the time I found this, my warranty was over. So even if it was a fault they kept recuring from day 1, I'm left all by myself to fix this issue.
Update
It was later found to be a faulty relay whcih caused all these troubles for 6+ years of ownership of this car and 3 tows to service center. A Rs. 250 stupid relay!
Goes on to show how incapable service center staff are!
